Reaching a Milestone

It's time for Myrkur Games' second-ever newsletter!

August marks a significant milestone for Myrkur Games. In the last few months, the team has been hard at work creating a playable demo of The Darken. In August, we will present this demo to focused publishers and game investors. We will also be presenting the demo at Gamescom, one of the largest gaming conventions in the world, held every year in Cologne, Germany.

A lot of exciting things are happening at Myrkur Games as we prepare for this milestone, including new cast, new hires, and large improvements to the core gameplay experience of The Darken.

Development

With the construction of Myrkur’s new motion capture studio, we’ve established efficient pipelines for every aspect of production and development is in full swing! Everything is on track for our August target, and the game has never been more entertaining.

At the moment, the team is working hard on improving individual aspects of the gameplay experience, with every member focused on crafting an awesome experience for our players.

New Combat Design

Combat is one of the integral pieces of the gameplay experience of The Darken. This is why we've been pushing forward with a new and improved combat design, with more responsive character control, better combat pacing and improved AI behavior.

After in-house testing, we feel these improvements will be a large upgrade to the overall player experience.

New Cast: Karl Ágúst

Karl Ágúst Úlfsson has been cast for the role of Abram Finlay, one of The Darken’s main supporting roles. Finlay is one of Ryn’s companions through the game’s story; a reliable friend who serves as a voice of wisdom and experience, as well as providing a healthy dose of light-hearted humor.

Karl is an exceptional actor and a perfect fit for the character we've envisioned. We look forward to starting our shoots with him in July!

Impactful Announcements

Great new opportunities on the horizon for Myrkur Games

Google Stadia announced - Gaming on all platforms

Google Stadia is a newly announced cloud-gaming platform which allows players to stream games from a cloud server to almost any device, instead of having to use their own computers or consoles to run them. We got a hands-on demo of the service in San Francisco, and we had a fantastic experience with it. This is a game changer for hardware demanding games like ours as it makes them accessible to mobile phones and live-streaming through web browsers, without a noticeable quality drop.

Epic Games announce 100M USD Megagrants

Epic Games (developer of Unreal Engine and Fortnite) recently announced a 100M USD (~12 milljarðar ISK) pool of grants, accepting applications from game developers working on games or other applications within Unreal Engine 4. Each project can get a grant of up to 50.000 USD (~60 milljónir ISK). We will be making an application this August, as we hit our next milestones and achievements. The ambition of The Darken, it’s market potential and the technological innovations it introduces make the game an exceptional candidate and good fit with the goals of the grant.

Gamescom in Cologne 2019

Myrkur Games will be attending the Gamescom convention this year presenting a playable demo to publishers and focused gaming investors. The convention is one of the largest gaming conventions in the world, held every year in Cologne, Germany. It is the world's largest gaming event, (measured by exhibition space and number of visitors) with 370,000 visitors and 1037 exhibitors from 56 countries attending the show in 2018, and the biggest gaming news expo of the year in Europe. It is truly a mecca for gamers and game developers alike.

June Investment Round

We are opening up an investment round, 20th of June. Funded in the round will be salary and production costs for a healthy runway past our milestone and to give some time for negotiations with larger publishers and investors. The round is capped with limited stock being offered up at this time. Formal invitations will arrive later this week. We are looking first and foremost to offer our previous investors a chance to reinvest before the evaluation increases substantially.

The round presentation and following party will be held at Myrkur Games studio, where people will get to see the latest developments, take a look at the new office and gear, see the games progress and meet our passionate team.

Closing Words

I’m extremely proud of the passionate team working on the Darken and the progress we have made with the company. I firmly believe that we are on a great track and have a great experience in store for passionate gamers like ourselves. I’d also like to take the opportunity to thank everyone who has helped, supporter or invested in us along the way for believing in our vision. This would not have happened without everyone’s collective effort. Looking forward to seeing you all soon.
