Myrkur Games

Magnús Friðrik

“I think starting to play D&D was one of the biggest steps I’ve taken in my life. The step from the basement of my house, to the basement of my friend’s house.”

As creative director, Magnús works to bring the vision of The Darken: Echoes of the End to life. Magnús spearheads the writing of The Darken’s story as well as the creation of the trilogy’s world and setting.

As a veteran Dungeon Master, role player and all-around geek, it may come as no surprise that Magnús joined the team after presenting an in-character narrative pitch at a Myrkur Lore Night.  Since then he’s served as the project’s creative lead, more often than not lying on the couch, scribbling something on a notepad, rather than sitting at his workstation. Magnús himself often says that he’s the only person on the team that can’t operate a computer. While this isn’t completely true, he remains the only member of the Myrkur staff to use only a single monitor, something he actually claims to prefer.

In his free-time, Magnús likes to play board games of all sorts, from miniature wargames to pen and paper RPGs, all the way to social party games and Trivial Pursuit. Some of his favorite games include the 8th edition of Warhammer Fantasy, Imperial Assault and The Resistance. He has a vast collection of miniatures, which he swears he’ll find the time to paint someday.

Magnús’s favorite games include Europa Universalis 4, Crusader Kings 2 and Knights of the Old Republic 2: The Sith Lords.

“Mental health is a matter particularly close to my heart. For years now I’ve been an outspoken advocate for the issue, working with Young Minds, the Nordic Welfare Center and most recently the Recovery College of Iceland, to help young people on the path to recovery.

“Whenever I arrive home I’m greeted by a couple of over-energetic fluff balls. Brandur and Tryggur are a wonderful pair of lovable brothers that make my life just a little bit brighter every day.”

“There’s no doubt in my mind that my life’s passion is stories and storytelling. It may come as no surprise then that my absolute favorite hobby is playing tabletop roleplaying games such as Dungeons and Dragons.
